SHIN SPLINTS

11th March 2010

Shin splints are a well known injury in the world of running.
The most common cause is inflammation of the sheath surrounding the bone which causes shin pain, and sometimes even lumps and bumps or a redness over the inside of the shin.
Although many runners know that rest, stretching the lower leg muscles and applying ice can help treat shin splints, to banish them completely you need to understand exactly what is causing them.
Thankfully our friends at sportsinjuryclinic.net went in search of the answers and they spoke exclusively to a podiatrist to find out about the causes of shin splints, as shown below.
