CELEBRATING THE OLYMPICS IN MORAY

As Olympic fever spreads across the country, Walk, Jog, Run, Moray are preparing to mark the games with celebrations of their own.

WJRM has already seen 4,072 participants take part in the Moray Torch Relay. Now, as the Games get underway, the fun is to continue.

On August 4th, there will be a 10K race in Buckie for those aged 16+. It starts at 6pm and costs £5 to enter - registration is at Buckie Thistle Football Social Club from 5pm, and there will be a podium ceremony and refreshments at the club after the race.

The second Pinto 3K event in Cooper Park, Elginon August 8th will also be part of the celebrations, along with a 1500m event the same evening. Registration for both is in Elgin Library from 6pm, with podium ceremony and refreshments at the Town Hall afterwards.

On August 10th there will be 4x400m relay races in Forres High Street, with entry free of charge. Races are open to three age groups - under 12s, under 16s and 16+. Individuals are welcome to register and will be put into a team on the night. Registration is at Forres TownHall from 5:30pm with the first relay at 6:15pm. After the event there will be a podium ceremony in the Town Hall followed by refreshments.

The annual Dufftown 5K at 5pm on August 11th will also be part of the Olympic celebrations. Entry is £5, with registration in the Dufftown Royal British Legion from 4pm. Participants are encouraged to wear kilts or tartan clothes. The run is open to all ages, but under 12s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. A podium ceremony and refreshments will take place in the Royal British Legion after the run.
