Why join?
Why join jogscotland?
The jogscotland programme is supported by NHS Health Scotland, sportscotland and the Scottish Executive Health Department; three national bodies working together to help many people in Scotland adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle.
jogscotland groups are based on the principles of making fitness fun and accessible. Beginners groups are really for beginners who have been doing little or no exercise, the expectation of a beginner at a jogscotland group might be someone who can walk/jog for 30 seconds whereas a traditional running/athletics club might be 20 or 30 mins running on the first night! This gentle initial approach ensures that almost anyone can participate and they are more likely to return in Week 2, rather than revert to a life on the sofa!
As part of jogscotland, people benefit from the ongoing and varied support of friendly jog leaders and their fellow joggers.

Why be more active?
By exercising gently and regularly, people can have more energy, make new friends, enhance self-esteem, help long-term weight loss and enjoy better sleep.
Being more active can also have specific health benefits by reducing the risk of heart disease, certain cancers, strokes, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and osteoporosis (brittle bones).
Furthermore, it can also relieve depression, anxiety and mood swings, prolong independence as people get older and give people more time for themselves.
Never too late
A slight change in lifestyle can make a big difference to health at any time and whatever age. jogscotland can assess people’s needs and ensure the appropriate level of activity.
Three in one
Members of jogscotland groups receive three main types of support; INFORMATION, GUIDANCE and COMPANY, all designed to assist each person in improving their health and well-being in an enjoyable and safe environment.
